About Poet William Karnowski and his community:
Poet William Karnowski grew up on a small cattle ranch in Northeast Kansas. Today this accomplished author lives in the quaint town of Wamego, Kansas. Wamego is a rural community of 4,000 that nestles along the fertile banks of the Kansas River. History surrounds Wamego with reminders of the past on the Oregon Trail, and throughout the community in its beautifully restored homes and businesses.
The Columbian Theatre and Art Center is a historically renovated 19th century opera house that exhibits six rare paintings and other artifacts from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Kansas' only operating stone Dutch Mill towers above the Dutch Mill Museum complex in Wamego City Park nearby. Oregon Trail followers can walk along actual trail ruts outside of Wamego and visit the Louis Vieux Cemetery near the banks of the Vermillion River. And, the OZ Museum houses of the world's broadest collections of Oz artifacts from the 1900's to present.
